Competitive Halo and the Championship Series

If you haven’t been following the Halo competitive scene since it’s hayday in 2008 or so, be prepared for a blast from the past! Thanks to 343 Industries’ lastest game Halo: The Master Chief Collection there has been a resurgence in the competitive Halo scene. Check out the current North America bracket for the Halo Championship Series Season Cup 1 here.

How is it that a game that is over a decade old still manage to get face time in the ESL circuits? A graphical facelift is a good start and a backing from many FPS gamers looking for a break from the Call of Duty shooter. Those of you fortunate to remember, 5-6 years ago the competitive gaming scene was a lot more different than it was now. Halo reigned as king and MLG livestreams were only capable of showing standard definition.

Halo has since fallen to the sidelines and was (and still is) a shadow of its former self. PC gaming taken the crown for the majority of hardcore gamers, with Call of Duty leading the pack of console competitive gaming.

Still, it’s nice to see a bit of Halo basking a bit in the limelight.
