Critics Adoring BattleBlock Theater

The Behemoth released their latest game through Xbox Live Arcade yesterday, a game of which took many (many, many) years to be developed but promised to be worth the wait. It seems, when reflecting on the Metascore through Metacritic that this may very well be the case as, at the time of writing, eleven critics have reviewed the game and given it an average of 88 out of 100.

In comparison, Castle Crashers, the last title developed by The Behemoth scored 82 out of 100 after 49 critics took the time to review the game. Castle Crashers has since sold in excess of two million copies of the XBLA service alone, with more than three million players currently sitting on the leaderboards on the games servers. The title, eventually, was released on both PSN and Steam so the overall sales of the title will be even higher.

We’ve taken the liberty of taking quotes, for and against as we don’t want to be biased, from those who have already reviewed the game and have even categorized them for your reading-pleasure;

Eurogamer 90%- “There are moments of glorious frustration, as there are in any great platformer, but the sting of such hurdles is always soothed by the sweetness of victory when you overcome them.”

Official Xbox Magazine 90%- “Between the remarkably replayable eight-hour campaign and competitive multiplayer, BattleBlock Theater already offers an exceptional value for your $15.”

Polygon 85%- The Behemoth has created a player experience far more sophisticated than the goofy theme belies.”

IGN 78%- “BattleBlock Theater’s lack of focus keeps it from being a true XBLA great, but this platformer still kept a smile on my face from beginning to end.”

… (seriously, 78% was the worse score currently given at the time of going to press)
