Cyberpunk 2077 sold an estimated 13.7 million copies in 2020 according to CD Projekt RED. The number is based on information collected from distributors. The game launched on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia in December 2020. However, it quickly became apparent that the game was rushed out the door. As a result, while 30,000 copies have been reportedly refunded, but in truth, the number is closer to 500,000.
That being said, the game does have its merits. While not terribly good in the gameplay department, we found the game worth playing for its story and writing. Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG that shines really bright and has its heart in the right place. But that does not of course excuse how it was handled by CDPR.
Enormous Patch
A recent patch of nearly 40GB was released. The 1.2 patch fixed a massive list of bugs and issues and added quality-of-life features requested by the players. It was still not enough to get Cyberpunk relisted on PSN, but it’s a step forward. The most notable fixes were adding adjustable steering sensitivity for vehicles, as well as adjusting the police AI to spawn further away.
CD Projekt RED has stated they are committed to fixing the game. Dropping support is simply not an option. Not that it should be, considering they have angry investors, consumers, and hackers breathing down their neck the entire time.
Of course, whether you want to take their word for it after how much they’ve been proven to lie to us, is up to you. Personally, we feel Cyberpunk definitely deserves further development. But obviously, the best thing would’ve been to have it released in 2022, rather than spending 2 years in early access.
