Enjoy your 4th of July weekend while you can, because the apes get it all in the end anyway. You can blame it on James Franco in between firecrackers.

“Dawn of the Planet of The Apes” has released a brand new spot darkly celebrating this 4th of July with a bit of cynical smatterings of apish delight to the sound of President John F. Kennedy speaking to our freedoms…all lost to a bunch of damn, dirty apes.

Ten years after a devastating virus unwittingly unleashed by Dr. Will Rodman (James Franco) decimated humanity, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and the evolved apes at his command come into contact with a band of human survivors. The fragile peace that they build is soon threatened by an inter-species turf war for the planet, ultimately foreshadowing the terrible future realized by the film’s inspiration: 1968’s “Planet of the Apes.” Happy 4th of July indeed.

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” releases this 11th of July starring Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Judy Greer, and Andy Serkis as Caesar, leader of the apes.
