Death’s Door DEALS
Death’s Door is a new isometric action RPG developed by Acid Nerve and published by Devolver Digital. This game has snatched my enthusiasm ever since it was first announced. Now I finally got the chance to try it out and see if it’s worthwhile. If you are also engaged in Death’s Door and want to find out its actual quality before buying it, then all you have to do is start reading. Here is my Death’s Door review on PC.
THEME OF DEATH
Death’s Door is a very eccentric title in which you will play the role of a silent crow who works in a company dedicated to collecting souls. Initially, your aim will be to get a giant soul, that is, the spirit of a creature that has lived much longer than it should. However, this will change when a mysterious thief steals it from under your nose.
Because of this unexpected event, Devolver Digital’s title will force you to enter a hostile land where beings with extremely powerful souls reign supreme. The beginning of Death’s Door is really very interesting. As you progress in your adventure, the story will continue to involve you more and more. The bizarre world of the game is truly fascinating. As if that weren’t enough, they also filled it with a myriad of truly unique characters.
How the developers characterized these crazy NPCs is really amazing. They will definitely be able to remain etched in your memory for quite some time. One thing that I appreciated the most is how the title talks about a delicate theme like that of death. In fact, Acid Nerve dealt with this topic exceptionally. At the same time, they maintained a very light and fun atmosphere for most of the adventure.
IMPROVING IN BATTLE
Death’s Door’s combat system is very simple. Like most action RPGs, it is possible to attack, dodge, and execute charged shots. You can also use different ranged spells that you will unlock during your adventure. To cast the spells, you will need to consume MP, but luckily you can recover them simply by hitting enemies or objects with your melee weapon.
This mana recovery system is really great, as it motivates the player to attack both from close and far during encounters. Devolver Digital’s title also stands out for a very special healing system. To restore your character’s life points, you will have to plant seeds inside some vases scattered throughout the levels, thus making a flower grow that can heal you several times.
They hid these seeds throughout the game world. Take note that there are not a lot of these seeds available. Thanks to this, the game will force you to plant them only in strategic points to avoid consuming too many. Despite being based on very simple mechanics, the fights in Acid Nerve’s title will become more and more fun and challenging as you progress in the adventure.
This happens because in the later stages of the game, you will face groups of increasingly many and powerful enemies. To be able to defeat them, the game will force you to make the most of your crow’s arsenal. In addition, in Death’s Door, there are also many excellent boss fights that could put your skills to the test.
Fortunately, however, to win, the game will not force you to rely entirely on your skills. You can also improve the statistics of the protagonist. By killing enemies and exploring, you can, in fact, get expendable souls to improve your values of strength, dexterity, speed, and magic. In addition, by exploring, you can also find new and more powerful melee weapons. This will help you a lot in the most arduous battles.
SOLVING MYSTERIES
In its structure, Death’s Door is very reminiscent of the first chapters of The Legend of Zelda. The game is made up of several large explorable areas full of enemies to defeat and, above all, puzzles to solve. Often, in fact, to reach your primary goal, you will first have to overcome various puzzles that will block your path.
Furthermore, you can’t solve all puzzles right away. Many will require the use of specific magical abilities obtainable only at certain points in the game. All the areas in Devolver Digital’s title boast a really excellent level design. There are many complex paths, secondary roads, and secrets. Death’s Door, in fact, presents many hidden treasures that will be fundamental to your gaming experience.
If you explore, you will find weapons, seeds, upgrades, large accumulations of souls, and crystals that can increase your maximum HP and MP. Yes, there are some collectibles scattered around. Take note that these are exquisite objects that will provide you with additional information about the game world and its characters.
The devs at Acid Nerve hid these secrets pretty well, but still made it a lot of fun to unearth. Unfortunately, this will not always be the case. To solve some of the biggest mysteries of the game, you will have to perform some unintuitive actions. This lack of clarity risks slowing down the completists a lot in some certain sections of the game, also leading to a bit of frustration.
CONCLUSION
Overall, there isn’t much to say about Death’s Door’s technical sector. Acid Nerve optimized the title very well and can run smoothly at 60 fps even on mid-range PCs. In addition, the software is also extremely stable. I didn’t encounter any noteworthy crashes or bugs during my test sessions. Death’s Door, however, has really managed to kidnap me thanks to a phenomenal artistic sector.
Devolver Digital’s title boasts a simple and almost fairytale style that manages to bring out every corner of the enchanting game world to perfection. During your adventure, you will cross many breathtaking and very different scenarios. Thanks also to an excellent soundtrack, the game will surely keep you captivated!
