Destiny 2 has been off to a bit of a rocky start. Developers Bungie have tweaked and improved the space shooter in some ways, such as the story, but have been criticized for other parts of it. However, regardless of criticism of where the game is currently and where it’s going, one thing is for certain; the first DLC is on its way. At the PlayStation presentation at Paris Games Week, Sony showed off the first trailer for Curse of Osiris, which will be released on December 5.
The trailer itself is narrated by the warlock vanguard Ikora Rey. She talks about a new issue arising involving the Vex on Mercury. They have opened up an ancient gate, with Vex from the past and future arriving to reshape the universe to their liking. You have been tasked to head to Mercury to investigate, and to seek out Osiris, who has the potential to help turn the tides against the Vex. The trailer goes on to show Osiris as he battles against the Vex, and some spots look very similar to the Templar’s Well in Destiny‘s first raid, the Vault of Glass. Osiris has been an interesting figure in the lore of Destiny, as he is a powerful warlock who was cast out of the city and forced into exile. It was on Mercury that he formed a cult, and started the Trials of Osiris, the original competitive mode in the first Destiny.
The features that have been touted by Bungie in regards to the first DLC are pretty interesting. There will of course be a new story which features new and returning characters, and a new planet to visit; Mercury. On Mercury there will be a new PVE area, the Infinite Forest, as well the Lighthouse from the first Destiny will be a new social space for players to go. There will of course also be new strikes, new PvP maps, new adventures, new weapons and gears, but of note Bungie has stated there will be “new raid content”. It is unclear if that means that there will be a whole new raid, or a revamp of the Vault of Glass, or perhaps new challenges added to the current raid, Leviathan.
