Destiny Is Getting Microtransactions

Destiny

It was a matter of time, but Destiny is finally going to be getting a few items to buy with real-life currency. Players will have the opportunity to purchase “Silver” via their respective console stores for a price that has not yet been revealed. Bungie announced that Silver will be used to purchase emotes initially (and likely other cosmetic items down the road) from Tess Everis in The Tower. Pricing for the Silver, as well as images and descriptions, will be coming on October 13th when the storefront is released to the public.

Kotaku broke the news early with reports from sources, and it was then confirmed later on. I mention this because they also reported on the DLC structure for Destiny to be changing as well, which sounds interesting. Destiny will not be releasing any more paid expansions to the game until Destiny 2 comes out in 2016, but that doesn’t mean the game won’t be updated with new content. “Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests…” states the Bungie news post, indicating that Kotaku’s report may very well be true, though Bungie has not yet confirmed the DLC structure to be true. If true, the game would end up being updated every couple months with new quests and content.
