Some details have been released concerning the plot and characters of Killer Is Dead, the new title from Grasshopper Manufacture and acclaimed game director Goichi Suda, a.k.a. Suda 51.

Suda 51 is known for his distinct and left-field approach to games, as seen in previous titles such as cult classic Killer 7 and No More Heroes, with Killer Is Dead seeming to be no exception, starring an assassin named Mondo Zappa who loves boiled eggs and whose left hand can transform into a drill, a gun, and other items. Zappa absorbs blood from enemies in order to perform a powerful move named his “Adrenaline Burst” attack.

Zappa works for an agency and his job is to kill murderers around the world. He is assisted in this by colleagues Vivian Squall, a cat-suit-wearing British girl; and Mika Takekawa, Zappa’s housemate and the person who supplies him with his much-beloved boiled eggs. The game’s primary antagonist is a man named Victor who has the power to manipulate emotions through song.

Despite the “killer” in the title, Killer Is Dead has no direct connection to Killer 7, although Suda 51 has apparently stated that the upcoming game will retain “the essence of Killer 7 and No More Heroes.”

Killer Is Dead is scheduled for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in summer 2013.
