Details of the Destiny Beta Revealed

Coming off the heals of a surprise Alpha on the PlayStation 4, Bungie is now set to give players a bit more of a taste of what Destiny has to offer. On July 17, players will get their hands on an extended beta, as was announced by Bungie earlier today.

As confirmed back at E3, the Destiny Beta starts first on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Starting at 10:00Am PDT on Thursday, July 17, the Beta launches and runs through Monday, July 21. During this time, players will be able to engage in battles in places like the Crucible, play co-op Strike Missions, and quite possibly the team will offer up a few surprises as well. On Wednesday, July 23, the Beta resumes and for the first time gamers who own either a Xbox One and Xbox 360 will get access to the Destiny Beta. And of course, there is a catch, right? Remember way back when you were being bombarded with offers to pre-order Destiny? Well, the only way to gain access to the Beta is by being pre-ordering. We believe there is still time to gain access to the Beta so it would be in your interest to pre-order sooner than later. The Beta runs through 11:59PM PDT on Sunday, July 27.

For the collectors out there, Bungie also announced the various collector’s editions today. The three flavors are Destiny Ghost Edition, Destiny Limited Edition, and the Destiny Guardian Edition.

Both the Destiny Ghost Edition and Destiny Limited Edition will come with a limited edition SteelBook case, a unique in-game Ghost casing, an exclusive player emblem and ship variant, a Guardian folio of printed guides, maps, and art, and the Destiny Expansion Pass that includes two upcoming DLC packs. The expansions — The Dark Below and House of Wolves — will feature new story missions, co-op activities, multiplayer maps, guns, armor, and gear. Each expansion will also offer additional exclusive content for PS4 and PS3 owners.

The Destiny Ghost Edition, however, will add a Ghost replica with motion-activated lighting and voice recordings from Peter Dinklage, as well as a letter of introduction, and Golden Age Relics — a photo, patch, sticker, and two chrome slides of the Traveler.

For those that prefer to go digital, the Destiny Digital Guardian Edition will provide a downloadable version of the game, the Destiny Expansion Pass, and the in-game Ghost casing, player emblem, and ship variant offered in the Destiny Ghost Edition and Destiny Limited Edition.

The Destiny Ghost Edition, Destiny Limited Edition, and Destiny Digital Guardian Edition will all be available at launch and priced at $149.99, $99.99, and $89.99, respectively. Additionally, the Destiny Expansion Pass will be sold separately for $34.99 or players will have the option to buy each expansion individually for $19.99.
