Whilst reports earlier this year stated that Sony plans to support the PlayStation 3 until at least 2015, sources close to VG24/7 have reported that Sony is beginning to share details of the PlayStation 4 with partners which are key to the company.

According to these reports, the PlayStation 4 has been code-named: Orbis and it is currently in second refresh with the third due to be shipped to developers in January. This ‘January model’ of the Orbis is supposedly close to the final specs before being provided next Summer, which could indicate a E3 reveal of the new console to the public.

Sources believe the console will be powered by AMD’s A10 APU as dev kits feature either 8GB or 16GB of RAM, a Blue-Ray drive and 256GB hard disk drive among what has become industry standard of Ethernet, HDMI and Wi-Fi functionality also featured on the new console.

We’ll keep you updated on the “Orbis” when we hear more!
