David Brevik has made his mark on the gaming industry in many ways. From creating Diablo, to changing the way games look at loot distribution, to bringing Marvel Heroes to life (I’m still unhappy about Marvel Heroes closing,) his contributions span over 30 years and multiple development studios. Since starting Graybeard Games back in 2016, Brevik has been fairly quiet; that seems like it will be changing now that It Lurks Below (his first project since 2013 back when Gazillion Entertainment began Marvel Heroes,) is set to launch later this year.
It Lurks Below is an all-new title that blends the creative spirit behind games such as Terraria and Minecraft (something Brevik is very fond of) and the RPG mechanics Brevik himself created for Diablo, all with indie/retro flair. If you’re curious to see just what Brevik has cooked up, and what exactly lurks below, can tune into Twitch this weekend to see 200 gamers participating in the closed beta and experiencing the game for the first time. David Brevik will also be streaming It Lurks Below on the official Graybeard Games twitch channel, so if newbies to the game aren’t your cup of tea, and you’d rather watch a veteran play the game, Brevik has you covered.
The closed beta begins on Friday, Feb. 2, and ends Monday evening, Feb. 5. All beta participants have been encouraged to stream on Twitch, and as previously mentioned, David Brevik will be streaming at the times listed below –
Friday, Feb. 2: 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. PST
Saturday, Feb. 3: 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. PST
Sunday, Feb. 4: 10 a.m. – Noon PST
Monday, Feb. 5: Noon – 2 p.m. PST
Brevik has also stated that he plans to surprise beta participants who decide to stream the game, so he may pop up in other streams at any time!
“Though I certainly had creative influence as CEO of Gazillion, I feel like I’m finally right back where I belong—actually getting my hands dirty and creating great games,” Brevik commented, having moved on from his position as CEO of Gazillion Entertainment in 2015. “It’s humbling going from large teams making content based on huge properties like Marvel to a one-man team with a brand new idea no one has heard of yet—but I’m loving every minute of the process. It’s all very exciting…and a little bit scary, too. I’ve always been a huge proponent of community involvement in game creation, and I heartily welcome all feedback from players and Twitch-stream viewers—anything that can make It Lurks Below the best it can possibly be.”
It Lurks Below sounds like an interesting premise, and since Graybeard Games is a one-man show, it is impressive that It Lurks Below was developed solely by David Brevik himself. Check out the Graybeard Games twitter, and Facebook to keep up with the development.
