Diablo III Console Port Possible

Diablo III

Blizzard has not made any official announcements about a potential console release of Diablo III; the company is, however, “continuing to explore” the option, according to Blizzard COO Paul Sams. If Blizzard decides to stray from their long time computer-only streak for a console release, “it will ultimately be the type of game that can really make sense and be really fun, well polished and a true Blizzard-level experience on a console,” Sams told CVG.

Blizzard has not released a game on a console since 1997’s The Lost Vikings 2. The first Diablo was ported to the original PlayStation, courtesy of Climax Group and publisher EA. Since then, the series has been regulated to the PC with mouse-and-keys-only for controls. The lack of console releases is not due to any aversion from Blizzard, Sams says: “We just want to make a great game. If the best experience involves a mouse and a keyboard, we’ll put it on PC. If it plays better with a controller, that’s the route we’d take. If it works on both…we’d make it for both.

“We think that we can have a really exciting and compelling experience that will play well on console in addition to PC.” With a confirmed May release date, Blizzard is mainly preoccupied with the game’s initial debut. Don’t be surprised if you hear more about potential ports soon afterwards.
