Doom Season Pass and Open Beta Announced

DOOM

Doom comes out in a little over a month, and just wrapped up its closed beta period. The first-person shooter from id Software will launch on May 13th, 2016 but before then, you will have time to decide whether you want to pick up the game for its multiplayer or not. An open beta will run from April 15th to April 17th, allowing players to participate in the same game modes which were available in the closed beta – Team Deathmatch and Warpath. The maps available will be Heatwave and Infernal.

Warpath is Doom‘s King of the Hill-esque mode. Players can choose to try and capture a control point or make an oath with the devil and become a rocket-wielding monster that can destroy marines without breaking a sweat (do demons sweat?). The strategy comes in whether capturing the point matters more than killing those going for the capture.

Announced alongside the open beta was that Doom would unsurprisingly offer a season pass. Retailing at $39.99 USD, it will contain three post-launch DLC packs that will be multiplayer-exclusive. These packs will include additional maps, armor, weapons, and all the usual multiplayer additions. The first pack will be available in the summer and will contain the following:

The three packs will also be available separately for $14.99 USD each, so if you don’t think the multiplayer will hook you for long, you can opt out of as many of the DLC packs as you want. There will be free updates post-launch, as well.
