Doom is finally going to come out after years in an unknown state. An alpha for the game was done back in December 2015, but news since then has been relatively silent and even the alpha itself was kept fairly low-key. Bethesda has announced today that players can expect to fight through hordes of demons on May 13th, 2016 – yes, that is Friday the 13th. Along with the release date, Bethesda released a trailer to showcase the game’s high-octane, brutal gameplay, which you can view above.
“Brutal” doesn’t even begin to describe the violence players will get to inflict upon the demons of Hell, but the trailer does a great job of showcasing just how frantic the gameplay is and roughly what to expect when it comes to the game’s gore. Announced alongside the release date was also the collector’s edition of the game. That version will contain a 12″ statue of the Revenant – one of the game’s more iconic enemies. The game will come in a metal case, as well. Those who pre-order will receive a Demon Multiplayer pack that consists of “a unique demon armor set with three skin variations, six metallic paint colors and three id® logo patterns that can be applied to weapons and armor“. Pre-orders also include six Hack Modules, which gives players an advantage in multiplayer matches.
The exclusion to all this news is when exactly the Doom Multiplayer Beta will happen. Players who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order were promised access to the multiplayer beta, but The New Order came out back in May of 2014 and no news has been given of when the beta will happen. A few people were selected out of the beta pool to join the alpha. Hopefully news comes soon for those who bought Wolfenstein: The New Order for the Doom beta, exclusively, and those who just want to shoot some demons sooner than May.
