Japan uses the Nintendo DS in school, why not take the handheld and make it even more mobile. Toyota’s newest Smart Navi car navigation system lets driver turn the Nintendo DS into a navigation remote control.
Kuruma de DS, loosely translated into “use the DS in the Car” allows passengers to use the DS to input destinations. The DS then gives map and sightseeing information. The DS also lets users save places where they have visited.
The Kuruma de DS card is Bluetooth enabled, which lets DS owners pair the handheld with the car. After pairing, the DS is ready to be used as a remote control.
The DS navigation remote does not come cheap though. The high end Smart Navi is ¥206,850 (US$2,586). Kuruma de DS has to be purchased separately from Toyota for ¥7,329 ($92). Neither price includes the DS (assuming one is not already owned).
