E3 2011 – Sony President Says No Rush on PlayStation 4

We anticipated with news that Sony was developing a PS3 Successor that the company would at least preview their latest console venture at the E3 2011 expo but we were wrong. Even in the midst of massive competition, with Nintendo planning to reveal it’s Wii 2 at this years E3 2011 conference and news of Microsoft pushing forward with an Xbox 360 successor we were almost one hundred percent sure Sony would at least try to make an appearance at the conference.

But according to an exclusive interview IGN had with Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios, the company is not yet ready to turn the page on the Playstation 3, which they still view as a formidable platform against their competitors. In other words, why speed up development of a Playstation 4 when the Playstation 3 can still hold it’s own. This might be a risky strategy in the long run with Nintendo promising to build a system leaps ahead of everyone else but Yoshida stated that he “does not feel the need to introduce a new PlayStation console” at this time.

What is clear however is that Sony will be focusing on debuting the Playstation NGP, it’s PSP successor, at this years E3 2011 expo and we imagine anymore talk of the Playstation 4 would just get in the way of that.
