E3 2015: Rise of the Tomb Raider Hands On

So I strolled into the Microsoft booth here at E3 and, low and behold, they had a cave in the corner filled with mystery and danger – and a screen showing off gameplay for Rise Of The Tomb Raider, the sequel to the smash hit reboot, Tomb Raider. Since no filming was allowed, I wrote up a quick summary of what you can expect from the new release.

The graphics are absolutely stunning, comparably to the first game’s, of course, but shinier and more polished than before. The core gameplay mechanics stick to the original, but with some differences here and there, such as a vastly larger crafting system which you can use on the go. There are also exploration locations, which are filled with tombs, crypts, collectables, and side missions that are three times larger than in the previous game.

Animals play an even larger role in Rise Of The Tomb Raider, as there are multiple improvements to weapons and things to craft to help you throughout the story, so gathering is very important. Lara’s now more agile since she has more experience and can move more dynamically through surroundings, and can attack from trees or hide from enemies, meaning you can play to your style: Stealth or assault.

I’m sure that more information will come out regarding the story and other mechanics, but until then I can tell you that fans of the first game will absolutely adore this new title – the same reboot style with new jazz thrown into a brand new story.
