E3 2016: Ever Oasis is Nintendo’s new IP for 3DS

Ever Oasis, Nintendo

Ever Oasis was revealed by Nintendo during their Nintendo Treehouse stream during E3 on Wednesday. It was teased mere days before and came as a surprise to many. The adventure RPG is set in the desert and is primarily influenced by Egyptian culture and mythology. The game stars you, as a chosen seedling, who combined with your partner Isuna, will grow your own oasis and adventure. The oasis features interesting town mechanics where you can add and grow shops based on villagers you encounter. These villagers run your shops but can also be taken out on adventures.

The overworld is a desert that you can explore, and within it are numerous dungeons and caves. The game is single-player, but you adventure with a party of three. You can swap between the three at any given time. The villagers that join you will have different abilities and will be able to offer various ways to solve dungeons and battle the enemies of Chaos. There seems to be plenty to explore and items to forage, and the game offers a vibrant colour palette and unique character designs.

Ever Oasis is being developed by Grezzo, who are mostly known for their work on portable Legend of Zelda games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D. The game is directed and produced by Koichi Ishii, known for his work on the Mana series for Square Enix. The game is very colourful and adorable, and one can see visual comparisons at least to Ishii’s other works. Ever Oasis looks to be a solid addition to the 3DS’s vibrant catalogue, though no release date has been confirmed by Nintendo.
