E3 2016: Ubisoft Conference Liveblog/Recap

Hey-yo! Logan here, and I’m the Senior Reviews Editor of BagoGames. You’ve found your way to our liveblog of the Ubisoft E3 press conference. So hang out, keep refreshing, and follow along as we cover the minute-to-minute updates from the video game publisher! Laughter will be had, tears will be shed, and video games are sure to be announced!

Ubisoft is a huge publisher in the industry, and their conference is sure to cover a lot. A leak on the sequel of Grow Home might point to one announcement, and trophies have appeared online for a PS4 port of South Park: The Stick of Truth, but there are sure to be a lot of new things to explore! We can expect more information on Watch Dogs 2. I personally would love to see more on their game For Honor, and Far Cry will undoubtedly poke its head in. But will we FINALLY see Beyond Good and Evil 2?!

But let’s get to the good stuff. All updates will appear below. All timestamps will be PST. Enjoy!

3:00 – It’s over, everyone! Thanks for following along. I’ve been your liveblogging host, Logan, and make sure you stay right here with BagoGames for coverage on Sony next! Until then, signing off!

2:58 – A final video montage of Ubisoft’s properties. The conference was REALLY long, but overall, quite successful! Ubisoft has some great things coming up!

2:57 – Everyone has come onstage. The CEO says that this is 30 years “…in the best industry in the world.”

2:55 – You will be able to register for Steep Beta online, and the game releases this December.

2:53 – They end their Steep coverage by saying that the game is also about “enjoying the mountains.” Looks gorgeous to me, and the rest of our BagoGames team is impressed.

2:52 – Seems like a great, dynamic Replay mode for editing and sharing.

2:48 – Gameplay shown. Gorgeous. An open-world sports game.

2:47 – From Studio Annecy comes Steep. Trailer shown featuring voices of professional athletes cliff-diving, snowboarding, etc.

2:44 – New IP. Competitive sports mixed with Open-world gameplay.

2:43 – Robot buddy announced with Collector’s Edition. One more game left!

2:41 – DLC will be coming to PlayStation 30 days earlier than anywhere else. Official trailer shown.

2:39 – Ubisoft will be partnering with Sony for Watch Dogs 2, just like the first Watch Dogs. Watch Dogs movie officially announced.

2:38 – Alright! Demo is over. Again, cool gameplay. CEO takes the stage to talk about Watch Dogs 2.

2:36 – Not gonna lie. Gameplay looks fun, but this is a pretty long, semi-boring segment.

2:34 – The main character is infiltrating a building and asked for some music. Got some great R&B/rap. Very nice touch.

2:31 – Hacking looks awesome, and the in-game cinematics look excellent.

2:29 – Ah, of course! An in-depth look at Watch Dogs 2.

2:28 – The stream has been “hi-jacked”! Not really, but we are getting a look at something…

2:26 – I definitely think the movie has potential!

2:24 – Getting to see a bit of new footage! And some behind the scenes looks.

2:21 – Not a whole lot of news here. Discussing the changes, filming locations, etc.

2:20 – Frank Marshall (Indiana Jones, Bourne films) takes the stage to discuss the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie.

2:18 – A trailer in the style of old 90’s commercials, Trials of the Blood Dragon. Out NOW!

2:16 – I have no idea what’s happening now. Ubisoft employees in red sweatsuits…wait…Blood Dragon?!?!

2:15 – Grow Up announced for all consoles.

2:13 – Grow Home! Sounds like a sequel…

2:12 – Release Date: February 14th, 2017.

2:08 – Definitely a Dynasty Warriors feel, in my opinion. There also appears to be a major element of combat in regards to changes stances.

2:05 – We get some gameplay of the vikings, headed to plunder the samurai.

2:04 – Last year, they outlined the multiplayer element of the game. This is a trailer for the single-player campaign.

2:01 – Looks like a new trailer for For Honor, describing “A thousand years of war”.

1:59 – Star Trek: Bridge Crew comes out this fall on all major VR systems.

1:56 – Levar Burton has taken the stage to talk about the experience. He emphasizes that everyone had to do their best to get the job done.

1:54 – Official title – Star Trek: Bridge Crew. Joke about the title being previously leaked on Reddit.

1:53 – A team-based co-op game. Everyone must work together. Looks interesting, but there’s not a lot going on and the graphics do NOT look great.

1:52 – Ah, of course. Star Trek VR. Featuring a gameplay look with Levar Burton! And other celebs, I suppose.

1:51 – A new VR space game from Red Storm Studio?

1:46 – You’re an eagle trying to capture a rabbit and get it back to your nest. If I’m not mistaken, graphics seem to have taken a step backwards since we last saw it…But still looks fun!

1:45 – The first live PvP gameplay in VR. Exciting. 3v3 teams in the game, capture the flag style.

1:43 – Eagle Flight for VR. This is one I’m EXTREMELY excited for. Palmer Lucky, creator of Oculus, is on stage to play.

1:41 – Survival Expansion announced. Trailer released. Looks like trying to survive in a storm. Interesting.

1:40 – 3 costumes available in honor of Ubi’s 30th! Available for UbiClub members.

1:39 – Time for The Division. The new Underground Expansion is discussed, and comes out June 28th for XBO and PC, and August 2nd on PS4.

1:36 – The characters want to become superheroes and start a billion-dollar franchise, but instead Civil War erupts! And PC Principal makes a cameo at the end!

1:34 – If you pre-purchase the game, you get The Stick of Truth on your next-gen console for free! The Fractured But Whole will be released on December 6th. Trailer incoming.

1:32 – Now they’re discussing the revamped combat system, including moving through a space, knocking characters around, using powers to get around obstacles, and using your farts to alter space and time (including changing the turn order).

1:30 – HAHAHAHA! Lots of discussion about moms and dads “doin’ it.” Hilarious.

1:29 – Matt and Trey make a joke about the Kanye game and show us more gameplay featuring the backstory of the character you create.

1:28 – This is a “sequel” of sorts to The Stick of Truth. You and the other kids of South Park become superheroes! It REALLY feels like you’re playing an episode of the hit TV show.

1:24 – Trey Parker and Matt Stone take the stage to talk about the new game, South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

1:23 – Time for South Park!

1:22 – Released March 7th, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

1:19 – Dirt bikes and a truck shown in chase. This looks really good, everyone.

1:17 – Use of aerial drones shown. Background audio of characters is good, and shows off 4-player co-op play.

1:15 – Classic over-the-shoulder gameplay footage shown. Vehicles, including helicopters and rovers, are shown.

1:13 – A couple of sound issues, but Wildlands looks goooooood, and Butler claims it is the largest open world Ubisoft has ever created.

1:11 – Dominic Butler takes the stage to discuss cocaine (yep) and the story of a coke king and the ghosts attempting to take down the cartel.

1:08 – Ghost Recon: Wildlands trailer! Looks solid.

1:07 – Aisha does an introductory monologue about this being her 5th year hosting and how she’s paid in red wine and sarcasm. Oh, also, it’s Ubisoft’s 30th birthday!

1:05 – Just Dance 17 is coming to all platforms in October and Nintendo NX next year.

1:03 – Aisha Tyler (great host!) introduces Just Dance 17. Also, she takes a moment to acknowledge the tragedy in Orlando.

1:03 – Extremely weird and colorful dance sequence. There’s a lion somewhere in there…

1:00 – Off we go! Opening with Just Dance.

12:58 – Excellent opening retrospective video. Tweet to them using the hashtag #ubiE3.

12:56 – Looks like we’re starting early!

12:54 – Where are you watching? Youtube? Twitch? SOMEWHERE ELSE?!

12:45 – 15 minutes to launch! Are you ready?? Let us know what you want to see!
