The Assassin’s Creed franchise took a mainline backseat after the release of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Aside from the China, India and Russia spinoff games, we haven’t seen a full-scale Assassin’s Creed game since 2015. At E3 2017, Microsoft revealed at its conference the next Assassin’s Creed game, entitled Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will be set in Egypt and will be set before the Assassin Brotherhood existed. You will take on the role of a Magi named Bayek, who is a protector of Egypt. No longer will you skulk in the shadows, the people will recognize you as their protector, and while you may use stealth and assassin tactics, you will no longer be seen as a criminal in the way previous protagonists have been. The team at Ubisoft has been working hard to change up the standard Assassin’s Creed formula, so while the standard exploration and movement will be similar, combat has been changed in a big way.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will contain many action-RPG elements not found in previous Assassin’s Creed titles, from picking up new equipment with a variety of rarities (akin to Diablo 3 or other games of its kind) to utilizing more mystical capabilities such as seeing through the eyes of Bayek’s eagle, Senu, and leveling up via experience points given from kills or quest completion.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will release this year on October 27th, and seems to take on more fantasy-esque ideas, such as fighting large bosses (such as the serpent shown in one of the trailers) and exploring the pyramids, the tombs of Giza, and so many other immersive areas throughout Egypt. It is likely that with the time period being Ancient Egypt, the mythological and more mystical aspects of the game stems from Egyptian beliefs and practices. It will be interesting to see how this new direction for Assassin’s Creed ties into the previous games.

The addition of a skill tree, randomized weapons, and rarity, with all sorts of other new enhancements may end up breathing new life into the Assassin’s Creed franchise. With an October release, only time will tell whether it is what the series needs to get back on track. Stay tuned to BagoGames for more information on Assassin’s Creed Origins throughout E3 2017.
