Today’s EA Play conference was not just news about Battlefield and Star Wars content, EA Sports also had a presence and revealed news about the latest additions for NBA Live 18. NBA Live 18 will feature an all-new career mode called “The One” which will allow you to become a pro for the NBA, while also participating in games on real-life street basketball courts, blending street basketball and pro basketball in one career mode.
In The One, you will be able to create your own player and customize him with gear that you unlock over the course of the mode. The two sides of The One are drastically different; Organized, regimented basketball games for the NBA, and the freestyle street games outdoors. It has not yet been announced whether The One will feature any sort of narrative in NBA Live 18, but it does seem to attempt to blend both NBA and Street basketball for fans of both varieties.
No matter where you decide to play, you’ll find yourself rising in the ranks according to EA – “the respect you earn in The Streets matters just as much as the rings you earn in The League,” which was quoted from the NBA Live website. The street courts that were announced for NBA Live 18 include real-life Venice Beach, California, and Rucker Park in New York.
Player customization is not just cosmetic. Customization in NBA Live 18’s The One mode extends to a variety of playstyles based on what position you choose, as well as a “Signature” ability that only you use in addition to various traits that are customizable.
Interestingly enough, EA took the time to stress that The One is not just a single-player experience in NBA Live 18. The One will also include “uniquely crafted Live Events” that will be playable in single-player, co-op, and multiplayer settings. If you are interested in trying out this new mode, you will be able to give it a spin when NBA Live 18’s demo goes live and is free on Playstation 4 and Xbox One in August. Any progress you make in the demo will carry over to the full game when it launches if you choose to pick it up.
