E3 2017: Kingdom Hearts 3 Trailer Unveiled During World Tour Concert

Square Enix and the series director, Tetsuya Nomura, revealed a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 at the World Tour concert. The trailer also announced that there will be a new world and trailer unveiled at D23 Expo next month.

This trailer gives new significant story details, such as Maleficent and Pete looking for a “black box”, with Sora having to face the darkness in his heart to save Roxas.

Also featured heavily is the world based on Hercules, Mount Olympus, which makes a lot of sense if you have played Birth By Sleep 0.2. Many different locales were shown off in a more open world than previous titles in the series. Hercules also joins as a party member for the first time in Kingdom Hearts. Another first is the inclusion of 4 party members rather than the limit of 3. To add a little speculation, perhaps this gives more leeway for more party members to be included, like the Big Hero 6 rather than just the one or two available.

The combat is looking fast and fluid in this trailer. Kingdom Hearts 3‘s battle mechanics are shown, as well as past mechanics such as Shotlock and Flowmotion. Weather effects have been added as well, and the game’s visuals have been improved since past trailers. Hades, Pete, Maleficent, Ansem (Xehenort’s Heartless), and Xemnas were all presented in the new engine and they look fantastic, especially the first three with an eye popping animated look.

The trailer was debuted at Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour concert. As the name entails, there have been multiple shows of an orchestra playing Yuko Shimomura’s Kingdom Hearts music throughout the world. Los Angeles was its first American stop and will continue tonight and on the 14th, as well as New York on June 23rd and 24th. The concert also shows exclusive scenario scenes for the series.

More news will be shared at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim on July 15th, Square Enix confirmed at the end of the trailer. A new world and a new trailer will be revealed at the event.

Kingdom Hearts 3 still has not received a release date but recent rumors point towards a 2018 release date. Let’s hope we hear more from next month’s D23 Expo. Let’s cross our fingers!
