E3 2017: Life is Strange: Before the Storm is Coming This Summer

Episodic adventure games have become very popular over the last few years, thanks in particular to Telltale Games’ various series. While Telltale has done well with these adventure games, others have taken to the formula, one in particular being sleeper hit Life is Strange, from developers DONTNOD and published by Square Enix. During the Microsoft E3 press conference, the prequel to the game, Life is Strange: Before the Storm was unveiled, and will be coming on August 31, in a matter of months.

The game is set 3 years before the first game, and will focus on the friendship between Rachel Amber and Chloe Price. Chloe is well known to fans of the series as the best friend of original protagonist Max, and her relationship with Rachel is often hinted at throughout the game. Hopefully in this three part episodic series players will learn more about Chloe’s friendship with Rachel, and what challenges the two of them faced.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm is looking to bring players back to Arcadia Bay, with even more environments and characters, adding more depth to the popular series. From the preview trailer, there is shown some familiar environments such as the junkyard, but also some new unvisited areas of Arcadia Bay. While DONTNOD, out of Paris, developed the first game, this prequel is being handled by Denver-based, Deck Nine Games.

Return to scenic Arcadia Bay. Life is Strange, Square Enix

The first game did incredibly well for Square Enix, and it’s looking like they want to invest in the episodic format even further, and are diving into the world of Life is Strange. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on PC, but as was touted during the Xbox event, it will be enhanced when played on the Xbox One X. Were you a fan of the first game, are you interested to see where the relationship between Rachel and Chloe started?
