E3 2017: In the Name of the Tsar Expansion Details Revealed for Battlefield 1

EA Play’s conference kicked off the E3 2017 experience earlier today, and with it many fans of EA titles got exclusive never-before-seen details on upcoming games and content. Battlefield 1 players, in particular, received new information on the upcoming expansion entitled In the Name of the Tsar.

In the Name of the Tsar will include new vehicles, six new maps, a new “Supply Drop” mode, and 11 new weapons. As the expansion’s title implies, you will take on the role of the Russian army in a variety of combat scenarios and conditions. Interestingly enough, this new expansion to Battlefield 1 will allow you to play as the Women’s Battalion of Death, which will be the first time in franchise history that you will have the opportunity to play as a female character. I personally think this is a brilliant concept, as the popularity of female protagonists has only grown over time (look at the success of Wonder Woman).

In addition, EA has stated that Battlefield 1 will also feature monthly updates including (but not limited to) new maps and events. Two maps will launch this summer for Battlefield 1, while premium pass owners will have two additional maps from the They Shall Not Pass expansion coming as well. The two maps exclusive for premium pass members are Nivelle Nights (which releases in June) and Prise De Tahure (which releases in July) both of which will provide night-time map options.

With the two upcoming maps for non-premium members and the six maps from In the Name of the Tsar, this means that eight new maps will be available this summer (and ten if you have a premium pass.)

DICE has also announced that they will be launching a “brand new competitive experience” for Battlefield 1 that they will provide details on when Gamescom rolls around later this year. With the Turning Tides expansion coming in December and the Apocalypse expansion coming in 2018, Battlefield 1 fans should have plenty to sink their teeth into over the coming months.

Stay tuned to BagoGames during E3 2017 for more coverage of the event and let us know in the comments below what you think of the new Battlefield 1 expansion!
