E3 2017: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds coming to Xbox One This Year

Despite the fact that the PC version is only in Early Access on Steam, Microsoft’s E3 conference revealed that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be coming to consoles sooner than anyone expected. The game will be coming to Xbox One sometime this year.

In addition to this announcement, it was revealed by PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, that the game has reached 3 million players on PC, and the Hunger Games-esque game is going to be a “console launch exclusive” which suggests that we may see PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PlayStation 4 but not until later, much like other games announced at Xbox’s conference this year.

It does strike a curious note that the developers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are releasing it on consoles before it even comes out of early access on PC. Does this mean we’ll see an unfinished console release? Or will we see the game come out of early access before it arrives on console?

Either way, it was announced that Xbox One X owners will have the opportunity to enjoy PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with 4K and HDR compatibility. They haven’t revealed whether multiplayer will be cross-platform, which might determine whether people want to pick up the game on console, but they haven’t announced a release date either, so it is only a matter of time before we find out more details about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds‘ Xbox One release.

Judging by the 3 million players on PC, there’s no doubt that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be well-received on console, but the developers will have to play their cards right in order to see that same level of success mirrored on another platform.

Source: Microsoft E3 2017 Conference
