EA Closes Down Mythic Entertainment

Despite EA’s improving financial situation the run of layoffs at the company is showing no signs of slowing down. The most recent victim is Mythic Entertainment which is set to close down in the next few weeks. Some staff will remain employed at other areas of EA but most will have to start looking for work elsewhere.

Founded in 1995, Mythic Entertainment specialised in creating MMO titles and rose to prominence with their 2001 game Dark Age of Camelot. After being bought be EA in 2006, Mythic’s next game was Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning which was released in 2008. Yet as the MMO market became more and more saturated, Mythic’s fortunes took a turn for the worse. Warhammer Online was closed down at the end of last year and the studio was told to leave their MMO past and focus on mobile games. In 2013 Mythic released Ultima Forever on mobiles and an iOS version of Dungeon Keeper, both of which were critically panned.

EA has now made the decision to continue there mobile development elsewhere and so no longer have any need for Mythic Entertainment. The company has stated that it is ”working with all impacted employees to provide assistance in finding new opportunities, either within EA or with other companies via an upcoming job fair.”
