Less than a month before its beta, it seems like we’re still learning the basics about Star Wars: Battlefront. “Drop Zone” is only the latest multilayer mode to be revealed and in it, players will be on the lookout for falling escape pods – but probably no droids.
“Drop Zone” pits two teams of eight against one another to capture incoming escape pods. Players won’t know where to expect them as they hit the battlefield, with each crash site marking another capture point. Once you’ve captured a point, the pods will provide the controlling team with a power up.
The mode is intended to take place over a variety of the game’s maps, including the series’ newest Expanded Universe planet of Sullust and the Forest Moon of Endor, as described by Battlefront‘s Dennis Brännvall. One of them reportedly features “a crashed GR-75 transport ship,” around a waterfall overlooking an Ewok village amidst the map’s concealing forestland.
Like with most of Battlefront‘s modes, “Drop Zone” is intended to move quickly at ten-minute intervals and ends in an automatic victory should a team control as many as five pods.
Turrets and droids will also add some diversity to gameplay as players mow down enemies and secure capture points. Given the game’s preference towards more frantic, frontline action, Brännvall claims that camping is something that Battlefront will discourage.
We don’t have any gameplay footage of ‘Drop Zone’s workings just yet, but we sure will once Star Wars: Battlefront drops this Nov. 17th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Origin). Xbox One users, meanwhile, will get a change to play the game a week early with EA Access.
