Early PS4 Adopters Report Having Hardware Issues

Though the PlayStation 4 doesn’t officially launch until midnight tonight, some have managed to get their hands on Sony’s next-gen system early, be it from a Taco Bell contest or one of Sony’s launch events. Unfortunately for some, they’re having trouble with their fresh out of the box systems.

One Reddit user, Arogon, has experienced such hardware issues. In a post on Reddit, he explains that his PS4, when attempting to use it, continues to have a pulsing blue light that doesn’t change to white (a sign that it has turned on completely). He contacted tech support multiple times, with two refusing to help, as the system wasn’t officially out yet, and two others trying to help him fix his system, but with no success.

IGN reports that they also had problems with one of their PS4s, but only after the 1.50 update was applied. After trying various methods that also resulted in nothing new, they contacted Sony PlayStation PR, which led to a Sony Rep coming to replace their system and pick up the faulty one. Kotaku had a problem with their retail PS4, and after a big of diagnosing, concluded that the problem was due to a bad HDMI port.

Earlier today, Sony President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, tweeted the following regarding the PS4 issues.

It’s unfortunate that early PS4 owners are experiencing issues with their systems at all, be it a small batch or not, but better to know about it before its intended launch than to find out when thousands of people get the hands on it. If anything, I guess this reinforces some people’s stance on not buying new tech day one.
