For every Elder Scrolls fan who has yet to get the lovely and painstakingly remastered version of Skyrim, you are about to have a very good day. Today Major Nelson tweeted that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be backwards compatible on the Xbox One. Cyrodiil is now poised to be the hottest vacation spot during the Holidays. This makes me extremely happy because it gives me another excuse to drop eighty hours back into this game, good bye social life.
While Oblivion is the most high profile game that is getting backwards compatibility, it’s certainly not the only title that was announced. Major Nelson also Tweeted that Medal of Honor: Airborne, Trine 2 and Astropop are now all playable on the Xbox One as well. Looks to me like Microsoft is trying to get as many compatible games onto the Xbox One before the holidays and pull some more gamers to their side–and that’s quite fine with me! Oblivion is a very effective heavy hitter for Microsoft and Bethesda to pull out, especially if you don’t own a 360 or haven’t purchased a gaming PC. I’m also going to be on the lookout for Airborne now, I haven’t played that title in the series and don’t mind having my Xbox One keep me warm as I become a hero during World War II.
