The Evil Within 2 Adds First-Person Mode For Free

The Evil Within 2, Bethesda

In similar fashion to Resident Evil 7, you can enjoy the entirety of The Evil Within 2’s horror in first-person with a free update on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

But how do you switch to first-person mode? Easy. All you have to do is go into the menu and turn it on. If you don’t like it, you can easily switch it off.

If you’re more of a fan of first-person horror games than third-person games, you can try out the Free Trial now, which includes the new perspective. It contains the first few chapters of the game and if you want to continue, you can carry over your progress to the full game.

So why did they update the game half a year after its release? Shinsaku Ohara, the producer of Tango Gameworks said, “I think exploring Union in first-person makes the scale feel even bigger than it does in third-person. Also, being able to see our environments and enemies up close allows players to get an even better look at how much effort went into their designs.” He also thinks that a lot of players like to play these type of games in this camera.

Despite Ohara liking this option in the game, it was a tricky process for the development team. “The Evil Within 2 wasn’t designed as a first-person game, so obviously it was pretty difficult,” said Ohara. “There were some scenes that just didn’t work, so it jumps back and forth a bit to third-person. But we made sure the game’s an enjoyable experience and hopefully, people will enjoy playing in this mode.”

Patrick Kennedy, in his review for BagoGames, thought the game was “a very engaging survival horror experience that fans of the original will vastly enjoy.” He thought, “The gameplay is vastly improved with new design choices making the journey highly engaging throughout.” He touted that the game had tons of replay value, but the storyline was predictable with a lack of interesting characters to carry it through. Perhaps another playthrough could be played in this new first-person mode.
