F1 2020 My Team Guide

Everything you need to know!

F1 2020 My Team

This year, Codemasters’ new F1 2020 title tries to offer something never seen before in the Formula 1 saga. With the addition of the My Team career mode, the developers definitely added a breath of fresh air to a series that really needed something “new” to give players a good enough reason to actually buy the game, and not stick with F1 2019.

Taking charge of your own team and also driving for that same team needs a strong mentality and determination. Luckily for you, below you will find the complete F1 2020 My Team guide with everything you need to know on how to properly succeed with your new dynasty and conquer the F1 constructors’ standings.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

In the new F1 2020 My Team career mode, you will have the opportunity to play a double role within the world of Formula 1, alternately taking on the role of the driver on the track and those of the manager behind the desk of your personalized team. Take note that this team will form the eleventh team on the starting grid.

As a driver, you will have to try your best to get excellent results during the races, in order to increase your personal fame and the overall reputation of the team (which also takes into account the level of your teammate). As the manager, you will have to manage budgets, sponsorships, engineering, and marketing departments, in order to make your team more competitive in the circuit.

START ON THE RIGHT FOOT

At the beginning of your adventure in the F1 2020 My Team mode, you will face three fundamental choices. You need to think carefully about these choices and evaluate their pros and cons, since they will influence your first moves at the helm of the team. The first choice is related to the main sponsor. Each sponsor guarantees a big signing bonus of a few million dollars.

You will also receive other extra money, in the form of one-off bonuses and an increase in weekly revenue. Take note that you will only receive extra money once certain requirements are met during the season, such as ending at a certain position in the constructors’ standings or simply completing a season.

My advice will be to select the sponsor who guarantees the biggest bonus, as you will need it for the next two steps and it is essential at the beginning of your career. After choosing the sponsor, it’s time to choose the engine supplier. Each manufacturer offers different statistics of power and endurance.

Take note that the higher the power and endurance the better the engine. However, it is also true that the costs will increase heavily if you choose a particularly high quality engine. In this case the choice falls almost only on personal preference, but you need to remember that with the budget of the initial sponsor you must also hire a second driver for your team.

As I said previously, you always need to carefully weigh your decisions in Codemasters’ F1 2020. Finally, it’s your turn to choose your partner, who will support you on the track and help build the success of your team, or decree their failure. It is therefore essential to choose a fairly capable driver.

This all is based on the experience (which affects the number of resource points obtained), racecraft (which indicates the ability to avoid damage), awareness (the pilot’s ability to overtake) and pace (the ability to score good lap times). The most important feature is the experience, as a more experienced driver will guarantee you more resource point income, which you can then spend on the upgrades of your vehicles.

FAME AND MONEY

Your team bases much of its hopes of fame. This is an indication of how well known your team is within the sector, and consequently the greater your fame the greater the income that you can get from sponsorships. In addition, Codemasters made sure that many drivers in the game will categorically reject any transfer offer to a team if their reputation is too low.

Take note that the fame of the team is determined by the combined level of your driver and teammate. When you and your teammate accumulate superb performances, the personal fame of each driver will increase, and at the same time your personal level and the value of the team increases.

THE ART OF DIMPLOMACY

Another very important aspect of the F1 2020 My Team mode is the interviews with the press, which can happen both as questions in the post-race (when you are in the driver’s shoes), and in the form of real organized TV interviews (to discuss the more managerial aspect of the team). Depending on your answers, you can often influence various factors of the team.

You can influence the mood of the team, the relationship with your second driver, or even the performance of entire sectors of the Research and Development department, in particular with the answers you will give at the first interview of the season. Therefore, do not make the mistake of neglecting relations with the press, as it may affect you in the long term.

Take note that the questions that are asked will become increasingly aggressive and pressing. To help you answer the most “dangerous” questions, or simply to increase the bonuses and positive effects deriving from your answers, you can even develop some enhancements in the media and marketing sector, for example, by hiring an expert in public relations.

IMPROVING FACILITIES

In the facilities section of the team menu in Codemasters’ F1 2020 you can spend the money from your budget in six different departments, each with different upgrades to unlock to increase the team’s ability to analyze performance, improve the car, train drivers, and much more.

Each department guarantees a weekly income of resource points. The quantity of resources produced by each department increases as you acquire upgrades within that specific department.
