Fallout 4 - Far Harbor

(Far Harbor, Bethesda)

Xbox One users of Fallout 4 have had quite an extensive bit of time toying around with the mod support that has been allowed for their platform. PS4 users were hoping to have some of the same fun when mod support arrived later. Bethesda has now given some sad news stating that the Mods Beta will be delayed for PS4 until further notice.

We regret to say that the PS4 Mods Beta for Fallout 4 has been delayed. We will update everyone when we can.

— Bethesda Game Studios (@BethesdaStudios) June 29, 2016

This delay comes following several concerns about the mod support for PS4 versus Xbox One. Bethesda released a blog post that cited several issues with PS4 mod support that they were working to fix. The biggest one was that PS4 users would only have a 900 MB store limit for mods, which is 1.1 GB less than Xbox One users. Also, sound files weren’t working. This is another issue but mainly because I need to hear John Cena’s theme music every time I level up. Finally, PC textures are not being optimized appropriately for the PS4, which can cause severe performance issues (something which Fallout 4 users are used to anyways, I’m sure).

As someone who has been really into Fallout 4‘s post-launch content, I was extremely excited to see mod support come to PS4. The concern now is that whatever issues Bethesda is having seem to be issues with the PS4 itself. So, does that mean Skyrim Special Edition is going to have similar issues with its mod support? Hopefully all of this will be ironed out later, but it could be possible that some elements might be hardware limitations, meaning they may never be able to be fixed. We’ll see what happens though as the story updates.

Source: Bethesda Twitter
