It’s one of a couple stacked weekends this year. Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan watched the newest John Wick film, John Wick: Chapter 2, and spent a lot of time dissecting its merits as a sequel to what was one of our favourite action films of recent memory. Does Keanu Reeves still kick ass? How does the action hold up to the original? Will John Wick ever be happy again? Probably not, but we talk all about the film and its place in the action movie canon, as well as where a third movie could potentially go from here.
But that’s not all that came out this weekend. Both Chris and Dylan saw The Lego Batman Movie which takes a look at Batman and what he represents with his actions, then takes a satirical look at his insane universe. Listen for our thoughts on that, but Dylan also saw Trespass Against Us with Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson. So he has a couple thoughts. Chris went and saw the third film that came out this weekend when he saw Fifty Shades Darker. Rather than just gloss over the film’s plot, he goes in depth about the insane and the mundane of the film.
All throughout the show, Chris tries to bring up some IMDB message board comments since that’s ending soon, and we discuss the latest news involving The Batman. There’s a couple noteworthy blu-ray releases this week, including Arrival (which you can hear us discuss here) and a Criterion!
Tune in next week as we return with Gore Verbinski’s latest film, A Cure for Wellness.
