Film Fallout Podcast #83 – Spielberg Brawls in Cell Block 99

Brawl in Cell Block 99

Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan are here to talk about the next violent slow-burn from S. Craig Zahler: Brawl in Cell Block 99. Starring Vince Vaughn, we talk about some of the controversy surround Zahler and his gritty exploitation flick. We come out with different verdicts on this, but there’s plenty to mine from Brawl in Cell Block 99‘s portrayals of minorities and how tension is created from uncomfortable situations.

Chris also went to Toronto After Dark Film Festival this year for a couple movies and decided to discuss Beyond Skyline, the sequel to 2010’s Skyline. Meanwhile, Dylan watched another documentary profiling a prolific director. Before, it was De Palma, but this week he talks about HBO’s Spielberg and how effective the film is depending on your familiarity with the director.

There’s also a couple great Criterions out this week, including our pick of the week, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. The news gets heavy again as more huge things are set in motion due to Harvey Weinstein’s abhorrent behavior.

Next week we will return with “Mister police”, when we review The Snowman.

Film Fallout is a weekly podcast about film and television, hosted on BagoGames.com. You can listen to it on SoundCloudiTunes, or on BagoGames. Also follow us on Instagram for some behind-the-scenes magic. We are both on Twitter, if you’d like to follow us there. Chris is @HammerkopCross, Dylan is @DreaminDylanS, and you can follow the podcast @Filmfalloutcast. And finally, there is a Facebook page for the podcast if you’d like to ‘like’ us on that.
