Final Fantasy XV is getting quite the coverage in anticipation of its release, and it still seems like there is so much we don’t know about the game. In the latest piece of footage released, the team at Square Enix has decided to show off one of the Final Fantasy universe’s most prominent creatures: the Chocobo.
The Chocobo has been a mainstay in the franchise for a long time, with spin-off games even happening. One of my problems in recent memory has been that it just feels like the Chocobo is simply in the background now and lacks any real purpose. It is a living, breathing creature in the Final Fantasy universe, and it looks like Final Fantasy XV is well aware of that. The Chocobo in XV is shown off in great detail in the trailer above.
There is a lot of beautiful shots of scenery and the amazing lighting of the Luminous Engine, but what is even better is how the game has managed to take the Chocobo and give him something to do. For one thing, he seems like a great mode of transportation and will likely be a suitable replacement for a car when you need to go off-road. Then there is the combat, where Chocobos do seem to have some effectiveness. We’ll see how effective they actually are when the game releases, but for now, they do seem to be utilized more than in previous games.
Final Fantasy XV releases on September 30th, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One.
