‘The Force Awakens’ in Star Wars Episode VII’s Official Title

Star Wars is roaring back into our galaxy next year and now it officially has a name. Disney has formally announced on its Twitter feed that the J.J. Abrams directed space opera and seventh installment of George Lucas’s film anthology will be titled “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

The news comes not long after the company disclosed that filming had since wrapped up on the two year project, complete with a farewell address from Abrams regarding the film’s completion. It’s been reported that Breaking Bad‘s Rian Johnson would be replacing Abrams in the director’s chair for further installments, though there’s been no official word beyond Johnson’s own teasing.

There is further no real word on the film’s plot either, despite recently released concept art giving fans a taste of what might be related tot he film’s script. Some have speculated that Luke Skywalker may, in fact, be the film’s villain after turning to the dark side, while others still claim that his and or Han Solo and Princess Leia’s children may fight or even join him. All we know for now is that the film is set thirty years after the conclusion of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and that the Force is still out there somewhere.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens releases Dec. 18th, 2015 and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Domhall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Lupita N’yongo, Gwendoline Christie, and Max von Sydow.
