Four popular Card Games

Popular Card Games

Card games have been among the most beloved forms of entertainment for centuries. There is something dignified about gathering around the table to play a card game, even if your competitive nature leads to some arguments with your friends!

There are countless card games to learn and play. It seems amazing that a deck of cards can have so many different games to play, but that is why traditional playing cards have stood the test of time because there is always something new to play. Let’s take a look at four popular card games and explain a bit about each one.

Playing cards with friends can be fun and relaxing…

Blackjack

Blackjack is a firm favorite for lovers of card games. Also known as 21, the aim is quite simple: beat the dealer. This can be done in a number of ways: by getting a total score of 21 with the first two cards dealt to you, getting a total higher than the dealer’s score equal to 21 or less, or by the dealer drawing additional cards until he exceeds 21 and is ‘bust’.

Blackjack is a casino favorite, and the game is hugely popular in online casinos. Playing Blackjack online allows you to enjoy the game on your own time and in the comfort of your home. This means you can get your eye in before the next time you play with your mates.

Poker

Another casino classic, Poker is enjoyed all over the world. The aim of the game is to place bets in the hope that you have a combination of cards that betters your opponents’. Bluffing is a major part of Poker, and being able to read someone’s bluff can help a player know when to bet and when to fold.

It can take a while to get the hang of Poker and learn all the different hand combinations and etiquette involved with playing, whether it’s in a casino or at home with your friends. But once you master the basics the game can be thrilling.

Bluff

Bluff is loved for its simplicity. The aim is to get rid of all your cards, but you must declare what you are discarding in each go. Cards must be played in numerical order, so to keep discarding you sometimes have to bluff about what you’ve played. If another player thinks you’re bluffing, you must pick up all the cards in the middle. If they’re wrong and you were telling the truth, they must take all the cards.

This is a great game to play with friends as you try and read their expressions and figure out if they’re bluffing or not. The quick and easy nature of the game means it’s great for any occasion, whether it’s a games night or a camping trip with your mates.

Spoons

Spoons is a fast-paced, action-packed game. The aim is to collect four of the same card value, be it four twos, four aces, four kings etc. Each player has three cards in their hand, and the rest of the cards are passed along the group of players with the aim of collecting the ones you require and swapping out the ones you don’t need. Spoons are laid out in the middle of the group, and when you’ve collected four of a kind you must pick one up. At that point, everyone must stop playing and try to grab a spoon. Whoever is left spoon-less is eliminated from the next game until only one winner remains.

This game can provide hysterical fun, as players desperately lunge for the spoons. You can even mix it up by placing spoons in different locations around the house so that whenever someone gets four of a kind, a mad dash ensues to find the hidden cutlery!
