Fox Is Working On An Alien FPS, Acquires Cold Iron Studios

Alien: Covenant - Fox

FoxNext Games, the sub-division that Fox formed in 2017 to work on video games, is working on an Alien FPS. The news comes as FoxNext Games has reportedly acquired Cold Iron Studios. According to reports, it’s Cold Iron Studios that will be taking the lead on the as-yet-untitled shooter.

Aaron Loeb, president of studios at FoxNext Games, spoke about the acquisition, as well as the upcoming game, saying:

Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games. I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe.

Although details are scarce about the game, it has been confirmed that it will be released on consoles and PC. Cold Iron Studios was founded in 2015 by former members of Cryptic Studios (NeverwinterCity of Heroes), including CEO Craig Zinkievich. Speaking about the studio’s purchase, as well as taking the lead on developing the upcoming game, Mr. Zinkievich said:

We believe in FoxNext’s vision and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe. Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon.

Fox originally had a working relationship to start self publishing games in the franchise developed by Sega, who have created the majority of the games to date. While this relationship has obviously come to an end, there are scare details as to why. Currently, there are very few details about the upcoming Alien games release, other than being confirmed to be in development, as well as being released on PC and consoles.
