The Gaikai cloud service is set to launch sometime next year in North America and will come with several PlayStation 3 titles to play, says Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida.
In a roundtable interview, Yoshida explained that a handful of games will be available at launch and will grow over time. Similar to Netflix, people want a good selection from the start, so that they have something to enjoy while waiting for more games to come. PS3 games on the Gaikai Library will be playable on PlayStation 4, PS Vita and the PS Vita TV (which has only seen a Japan announcement).
A release for other territories outside of North America was not discussed, but it’d be rather odd for this service to release elsewhere well after it’s out in NA.
All this being said, though, maybe don’t get rid of your PS3?
