E3 2015 was a dream event for many gamers around the world as games that were previously thought of as cancelled or would never come into being sprouted at Sony’s E3 Conference last year. Some call it the holy trinity: The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Shenmue 3. However, there are still games out there that have not had the light of day. Here are the games we have yet to hear about for a long time.

Half Life 3

(Half Life 2, Valve)

I’ll admit it: I’ve only played Half Life 2 for a few hours and then dropped it. Why? Because I don’t want to be one of those poor people who are still waiting for the story to continue. It has been almost 9 years since Half Life 2: Episode 2 was released, and it has become one of the mightiest memes ever since. Come on, Valve. Leonardo DiCaprio won the Oscar, Final Fantasy XV is finally getting released in September, and Cloud is in Super Smash Bros despite being a PlayStation character originally. Source Engine 2 is quietly being worked on, and Half Life 2 was originally released when Steam launched. One speculation out there is that Half Life 3 and Source Engine 2 could come out on the same day. It’s time for Half Life 3 to be announced. And then the memes can finally be silenced.

Beyond Good &; Evil 2

(Beyond Good &; Evil 2, Ubisoft)

In my On The Way To E3 article for this game, I referenced how Beyond Good &; Evil 2 has been missing for almost 8 years. It has been a long time since Ubisoft first announced the sequel and ever since then, we have heard very little on it. What we do know is that they’re working on it. On livestreams, Michel Ancel has outed the development on it twice. First, was the unveil of Jade’s concept art to the surprise of fellow developers, and the second was the utterance of a Beyond Good &; Evil 2 “secret room.” There is also the chance of the game being an NX exclusive. A report was published by Destructoid, which said that the game will be coming to NX only. According to the website, Alexander Maier received a “lengthy document” via Geno, a past accurate leaker. who received “a lengthy document” via Geno, a past accurate leaker. They also have the backing of a second source. Out of all the games on this list, it seems Beyond Good &; Evil 2 is more likely to be shown.

Agent

Announced back in 2009, Agent was set to be the next great RockStar North IP, and it was a PS3 exclusive. However, much time has passed without any other official word. In July 2013, Take Two Interactive renewed the Agent trademark (IGN), but since then, we’ve heard nothing. This seems the most unlikely as Grand Theft Auto Online has made over $500 million for RockStar and Take Two Interactive (GameSpot). There are also rumors of Red Dead Redemption 2 with an alleged map leaked out (VG 24/7). Interestingly enough, the website for Agent is still up with the original PS3 logo displayed below the Agent title. Will Agent show up at this year’s E3? Unlikely. But stranger things have happened.

Dragon Quest XI

(Dragon Quest XI, Square Enix)

Not specifically missing per sae, Dragon Quest XI has still not been confirmed for a Western release. First announced in July 2015, we have heard no official announcement. When asked by Eurogamer about its possible release in the West, Square Enix Europe stated, “We don’t have a concrete plan at the moment” They later said, “However, we will consider it as we’ve done in the past for other Dragon Quest titles. We don’t have further information to share at the moment.” The latest Dragon Quest release was Dragon Quest Heroes on the PS4 and then later for the PC. The 3DS ports of Dragon Quest VII and VIII have also been announced for a release state-side this year. Perhaps Dragon Quest XI will get announced for a Western release at E3 this year. Let’s wait and see.
