Sir Patrick Moore, famed astronomer and the face of UK TV show GamesMaster, has died. Moore, who was 89, is said to have died peacefully at his West Sussex home on Sunday.

The author of over seventy books on astronomy, Moore was also the host of BBC television programme The Sky At Night, which holds the title of being the world’s longest-running TV series with the same original presenter.

Many gamers will remember Moore as the face of GamesMaster, the video game-focused show which ran on British television from 1992 to 1998 and which spawned the magazine of the same name, which is still being published today. Upon hearing of Moore’s death, the publication announced, “Terribly sad news today as Sir Patrick Moore – aka the GamesMaster – has passed away. A true legend and one we’ll greatly miss.”

Dominik Diamond, who presented six of the seven series of GamesMaster, wrote on Twitter: “What? He also did a show about planets? I just did the puerile gags. But he WAS the Gamesmaster. RIP Sir Patrick Moore, a true original.”
