GameStop Breaks LittleBigPlanet Vita Street Date

Have you been waiting on the edge of your seat to play LittleBigPlanet for the Vita? Can’t wait a second more and just have to have it now? Are you American? Well, you’re in luck as American games retailer GameStop have broken the street date for the title and are selling it now. As in, right now. This very second. Two whole weeks before its official release date.

How is this possible? Well, according to a Gamestop employee questioned by The Escapist, the game never had a street date to begin with. There wasn’t one in the store computer and this allowed the store to start selling it immediately. This was backed up by a statement that Sony gave to Game Informer.

Production on LittleBigPlanet PlayStation Vita was completed earlier than expected and due to the excitement from our retail partners, we have moved from a street date to a launch date, which means that retailers can sell the game once they receive product. However, please rest assured that LittleBigPlanet PlayStation Vita will be available at all retailers on September 25.

Of course, none of the servers for the game, as of writing, are actually online and operational. Meaning that users can’t play levels with their friends, access their friend’s created levels or upload any of their own, and basically miss out on half of the game for a bit. The interesting part, now, will be seeing if any other retailers follow GameStop’s lead and just release the game when they get their shipments. It’s an interesting strategy on the part of Sony and GameStop so I’m intrigued to see if it’ll pay off.

In the meantime, LittleBigPlanet Vita is available to buy at US GameStop stores now. Just saying…
