Gears of War Will be Getting the Movie Treatment

<p>It was a matter of time&comma; but now it looks like a <em>Gears of War <&sol;em>movie is officially happening&period; Rod Fergusson&comma; the head of The Coalition and all things <em>Gears of War<&sol;em>&comma; announced during a livestream today that the movie is in the pre-production stages&period; It will be made in partnership with Universal Studios&comma; Microsoft and The Coalition&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Unfortunately&comma; no release date was announced yet and no details on the crew behind it besides Scott Stuber&comma; who is known for producing a lot of movies that I would never call &&num;8220&semi;good&&num;8221&semi;&period; His filmography includes movies like <em>Battleship<&sol;em>&comma; <em>The Internship<&sol;em>&comma; <em>Central Intelligence<&sol;em>&comma; <em>Free State of Jones<&sol;em>&comma; <em>47 Ronin<&sol;em>&comma; and the upcoming <em>Patriots Day<&sol;em>&period; However&comma; he&&num;8217&semi;s at least produced films and partnering with Universal might mean this movie could see the light of day&period; So many other video game movies seem to be having a hard time actually getting beyond the pre-production phase&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>I always worry about games being turned into movies&comma; not because they have a track record of being bad &lpar;they do&rpar;&comma; but because the reason they aren&&num;8217&semi;t good is due to a lack of understanding on what makes film different from games&period; The same can be said bringing films into video game form&period; However&comma; Fergusson at least acknowledged during the stream that they are looking at making it a good film and not just a game tie-in&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>How do you feel about a film set in the <em>Gears of War <&sol;em>universe&quest; Excited&quest; Let us know in the comments below&excl;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><strong>Source&colon; Gears of War 4 Livestream &lpar;via <a href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;variety&period;com&sol;2016&sol;film&sol;news&sol;gears-of-war-movie-microsoft-universal-1201879152&sol;">Variety<&sol;a>&rpar;<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;
