Nintendo announced earlier this year that they wanted to target female gamers in the future. They started this “campaign” off with a commercial titled “New 3DS XL Girl’s Summertime”. In the commercial, the specs and physical elements of the New 3DS are not mentioned. Instead the short time is spend telling the audience about how fun it is to play games like Pokemon, Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Life on the New 3DS system.

It could be looked at as either a bad move or a genius one. Based on the theory that most gamers (excluding cell phone gamers) are male, this “campaign” to draw in a wider female audience could help Nintendo’s systems and games sell more. It could very well make females, particular young girls, feel like they are being included in the gaming realm. What are your thoughts on Nintendo having girl-focused commercials?
