Some say nothing in life is free, and extra in-game fees purchases aren’t either according to the European Union. Following its investigation into the advertisement of “free-to-play” app games and their subsequent in-app fees, the European Commission had hammered out new instructions for game developers and the app stores that they sell to.

As a result, Google has agreed to cease its listings of in-app purchases as “free” by the end of September. Any in-app purchases will further demand verification prior to each purchase for safe measure.

Apple has meanwhile promised to address general concerns of payment authorization, citing it doing “more than others” to protect parents from their kids’ video game expenditures in the past via “great new features with iOS 8, such as Ask to Buy.”
