Gran Turismo 6 Announced, Coming to PS3 This Holiday Season

After previous teasers that alluded to an upcoming announcement regarding the Gran Turismo series, Sony Computer Entertainent and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi have officially announced Gran Turismo 6 for PlayStation 3, with a release window of Holiday 2013.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” explained Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments.”

Gran Turismo 6 will be running on a new game engine made to ‘improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content.’ This DLC may come in the form of more cars to further increase the 1200 that will be available at launch. 7 new racing locations, including the Silverstone Circuit, will also appear in GT6 and brings the total number of tracks to 33. All 33 tracks have 71 different layouts, with 19 of them being brand new to the series.
