<p>The Organisers of the UK gaming festival GameCity have announced the shortlist for the annual GameCity Prize. The six finalists are:</p>

<li>Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo EAD Group No.2/Monolith Soft)</li>
<li>Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (Starbreeze Studios)</li>
<li>Gone Home (The Fullbright Company)</li>
<li>Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar North)</li>
<li>Kentucky Route Zero (Cardboard Computer)</li>
<li>Papers, Please (Lucas Pope)</li>
</ul>
<p>The prize is intended to reward games not just for their gameplay mechanics but also for their impact on popular culture. Previoius winners of the GameCiy prize include Minecraft and Journey. The decision is made by a group of judges who all come from outside the gaming industry. This year the panel consists of award-winning journalist Samira Ahmed, songwriter Peter Gabriel, Financial Times manager Lisa Pollack and Welcome Trust director Jeremy Farrar. Gemma Jackson, a Game of Thrones production designer, and Darren Aronofsky, director of Black Swan and Noah, complete the line up.</p>
<p>The winner will be announced during this year&#8217;s GameCity festival which takes place in Nottingham between October 25 and November 1.</p>
