As one of the top grossing movies of 2015, Guardians of the Galaxy is currently the darling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with over $300,000,000 domestic. Not missing a beat to capitalize on the popularity, Disney is already in production with an animated series for 2015. The series, which will air on Disney’s more action-oriented channel Disney XD, already has an initial poster and some test footage that debuted at New York Comic Con. Check out the brief bit of animation with Rocket and Star-Lord, the post and the press release issued by Marvel.
Produced by Marvel Television, the series stars Peter Quill as Star-Lord, the brash adventurer who, to save the universe from its greatest threats, joins forces with a quartet of disparate misfits – fan-favorite Rocket Raccoon, a tree-like humanoid named Groot, the enigmatic, expert fighter Gamora and the rough-edged warrior Drax the Destroyer.
Given that it’s being created by Marvel Animation studios, there’s not surprise that the show is being produced by Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada, and Jeph Loeb will produce. This animated series should do nicely for those waiting until 2017 for the sequel movie.
