Guilty Gear Strive Gets a New Mod to Help Load Times

And yes, it's what you think it's called

Guilty Gear Strive’s been out in the public for just shy of two months, now, It’s received positive reception, gotten its first DLC character last week, and there’s another character coming this month, though they haven’t been revealed yet. However, there’s been a bit of a lingering problem regarding connecting to the game. More specifically, how long it takes to connect to the game.

This topic has been a bit of an odd sore spot for the game since launch, across all three platforms. Most times, it’ll take over 80 seconds just to log into the game’s offline modes. It’ll probably take even longer if your connection is not the greatest. It happens twice, once to boot the game, and once when you select an online mode. However, there’s a mod that counteracts this.

The Totsugeki Mod And Its Purpose

Yes, you read that correctly. It’s called the Totsugeki mod, named after one of playable character May’s special moves. The point of the mod is made to alleviate the aggressively long loading times for the server, and it does that in spades. In comparison to the 80 seconds it takes to get into the game from the title screen, the Totsugeki mod actually cuts that in half, even more, making you connect to the game’s servers even faster.

The way it works is that as it connects to the server, it treats your connection as a keepalive connection, making it drop the reconnecting phase that every server request needs. A Reddit thread, which you can view here, explains what makes the game take so long to connect on initial boot. And you may ask, “Why in the world does the game send over 100 server requests upon logging in?”

Well, it’s for a number of reasons. For one, it synchronizes your local data with the server on a per-character basis, such as levels, arcade mode progress, mission mode usage, post-match data, etc. If you’re on PC, using this mod is as simple as downloading the .exe file from the GitHub page, and merely running the .exe. The app then boots Guilty Gear and serves as a log that keeps track of your accelerated connection times.

The Totsugeki mod is available now on PC.

Guilty Gear Strive is available now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
