Half-Life 2 Gets a “Non Official” Community-Created PC Mod

Half-Lifes always been that one franchise that I never got around to experiencing, meaning I never really sat down and gave the game a chance. Not because the visuals weren’t next gen or anything, but simply because I just wanted to play other games. But, it seems as though Half-Life 2 may have been given a little more life, as a “Community-Made Mod” has just been released on steam.

The target of the mod’s to improve the overall visuals of the game, such as particle effects, fog, lighting, and shadow quality. It also claims to fix loads of bugs. Strangely enough, it doesn’t seem as though the mod fixes or improves texture resolution or quality. I’m pretty sure there’s some other mod in relation to that, but it would be quite epic to see a full fledged mod that improved everything within the game.

Here’s the feature set provided by the mod’s description on Steam:

“- Complete lighting overhaul including enhanced lighting, more detailed world shadows, and full High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDR).

– New particle effects and improved fog.

– Countless bug fixes, correcting both visual and game-based issues.

– An extensive Community Commentary Mode featuring the voices of well-known Youtubers, including Caddicarus, Brutalmoose,         Ricepirate, Balrog the Master, ProJared, and Ross Scott from Freeman’s Mind .

– Retains the iconic Half-Life 2 visual style and gameplay.

– All available in one free standalone download!” – HL2 Community Mod Description

I may give the game a chance now, seeing as this is a pretty impressive mod–the improved lighting alone sold me. However, improved textures would still be a nice addition. I’d also like to know what the “bug fixes” were, rather than just saying “countless bug fixes.”

It might just be time for me to enjoy Half-Life 2 in its new glory. Will you be giving the mod a look, too?
